Antique Siam Sterling Silver Niello Thai Dancer Shield Brooch
Vintage Siam Sterling Silver Niello Dancer Shield Brooch - Pre-WWII Thai Art
A striking and authentic vintage Siam brooch crafted in sterling silver with traditional black niello inlay. This sculptural shield-shaped piece features a finely engraved Siamese dancer in ceremonial dress, captured in motion against a deep niello ground — a classic and highly collectible motif from early Thai silverwork.
The brooch is marked "SIAM" on the reverse, dating it to the pre-WWII period, circa late 1930s to early 1940s, prior to Thailand's official name change in 1949. The bold shield/flame form, pierced silver scrollwork, and substantial feel distinguish this piece from later post-war tourist production, placing it firmly in the earlier export era sought after by collectors.
The niello remains well-defined with strong contrast, and the silver has developed a soft, natural vintage patina. The original pin and catch are intact and secure.
